Knowledgebase: Understanding the states of your domains
What do the different states of domain mean. E.g. Waiting DNS update or Error
When you first add a domain to your dashboard, it will move through a series of status states that reflect its current setup stage. Here's what each state means, what actions you might need to take, and how to troubleshoot common issues.
๐ NEW → BUILDING → WAITING DNS UPDATE
-
Your domain will start in the NEW state
-
It will then move through the BUILDING stage as we provision resources
-
Finally, it will stop at WAITING DNS UPDATE, signaling that it’s ready for DNS configuration
๐ก WAITING DNS UPDATE – What to Do
At this point, your domain is awaiting nameserver updates on your registrar’s side.
What You Need to Do:
-
Look beneath the domain name in your dashboard—your specific nameservers are listed there
-
Log in to your domain registrar, and update the nameservers to match those provided
-
Once updated, DNS propagation will begin
โ Once our system detects the DNS has resolved, your domain status will progress to:
-
Activating CDN
-
OK — this confirms your domain is fully live and SSL is issued (if selected)
๐ DNS Propagation Timeline (Important!)
DNS resolution time depends entirely on the provider you’re using and is not something we can speed up from our side.
Typical timeframes:
-
Cloudflare: usually resolves in under 5 minutes
-
AWS/Azure DNS: may take a few hours
-
General propagation: can take up to 48 hours, and in rare cases, up to 72 hours
๐ We cannot control or expedite DNS resolution times.
Please avoid submitting support tickets asking us to "make DNS faster"—we simply don’t have the ability to influence how third-party DNS providers propagate records.
โ Common Issues to Avoid
-
๐ DNSSEC must be disabled at your domain registrar—having it enabled will prevent proper DNS resolution
-
๐งพ Make sure the nameservers you enter exactly match those shown in your dashboard for that specific domain
-
๐งน Do not include any extra nameservers—only the ones provided by us should be used
-
๐๏ธ If it has been over two weeks since you added the domain and you’re only now updating the nameservers, the CDN may have purged the inactive zone
→ In this case, you’ll need to delete and re-add the domain in your dashboard to redeploy it
If you have checked the above and the DNS still hasn't resolved with 48 hours. You are more than welcome to put in a support ticket and we will investigate the issue further for you.
๐ด ERROR STATE – What It Means & How to Fix
If your domain enters an ERROR state, it means something went wrong during the build process.
๐ If this happened immediately after adding the domain:
You can usually fix this by reinstalling the domain:
-
Click on the domain name in your dashboard to open its overview
-
In the left-hand menu, under “Site Functions”, click “Reinstall”
-
This will restart the installation process
In most cases (9 out of 10), this resolves the issue
๐งท If the domain was previously in “OK” state and then changed to ERROR:
-
Do not reinstall the domain
-
Please submit a support ticket so we can investigate the issue directly. It's usually an extremely quick fix. Like a wordpress update error for example.
โ When Is Your Domain Fully Ready?
Your domain is considered fully live when its status shows as OK in the dashboard. At this stage:
-
DNS has resolved
-
SSL (if selected) is issued
-
Features like File Manager, Site Preview, and Content Tools will become available
๐ If you access your domain before it's in the OK state, you may not see SSL or full site functionality. This is normal—check back once the domain is fully active.
